Imprimatur, 1942. 40 page booklet. By Fr. Daniel A. Lord, S.J.
A Salute to the Men in Service is a wartime Catholic booklet written specifically for American servicemen, honoring their courage and sacrifice while explaining the ideals they are fighting to defend. It presents military service as a defense not only of the nation, but of Christian principles such as human dignity, religious freedom, justice, family, and charity. The author urges servicemen to see patriotism, obedience, hardship, and even the possibility of death through the lens of their Catholic faith, offering their sacrifices in union with Christ. The booklet also serves as a practical spiritual guide for Catholic men in the armed forces, encouraging prayer, Mass, Holy Communion, support for military chaplains, and a strong moral example among fellow soldiers. It warns against drunkenness, sexual immorality, dishonesty, and other temptations of military life, arguing that a serviceman’s conduct should reflect the Christian civilization he is fighting to protect.

The Complete Works of St. John of the Cross - 3 Volume Set
3 Volume Set - Imrpimatur, 1933.
Volume 1 - General Introduction, Ascent of Mount Carmel, Dark Night of the Soul. 486 page book.
Volume 2 - Spiritual Canticle & Poems. 470 page book.
Volume 3 - Living Flame of Love, Letters, Maxims & Documents. 470 page book.
Translated from the critical edition of P Silverio De Santa Teresa, C.D. and edited by E. Allison Peers.
This three-volume collection brings together the major writings of Saint John of the Cross, Carmelite mystic and Doctor of the Church, presenting his profound teaching on the soul’s journey toward perfect union with God. Beginning with The Ascent of Mount Carmel and The Dark Night of the Soul, Saint John describes the necessary purification of the senses and spirit, the detachment of the soul from created things, and the transforming work of faith, hope, and charity. What begins as an arduous passage through spiritual darkness is ultimately directed toward one purpose: freedom from all that hinders the soul from being united with God in love.
The journey continues in the Spiritual Canticle, where the imagery shifts from purification to the ardent love between the soul and Christ its Divine Spouse. Drawing upon the language and imagery of the Song of Songs, Saint John follows the soul through longing, spiritual betrothal, and finally spiritual marriage—the highest union attainable in this life. Volume II includes both principal redactions of the Spiritual Canticle as well as his collected poems, revealing the extraordinary poetry from which many of his mystical treatises developed.
The collection reaches its culmination in The Living Flame of Love, in which Saint John writes of the soul already transformed and deeply united with God, consumed yet perfected by Divine love. The final volume also gathers his practical and personal writings—including his Cautions, counsels on attaining perfection, spiritual sentences and maxims, surviving letters, historical documents, and extensive supplementary material. Together, these three volumes offer not merely a collection of separate works, but a remarkably complete vision of the mystical life: purification, longing, union, and transformation in the love of God.

https://joyfulcatholic.com/cdn/shop/files/n-tdm.jpgTrue Devotion to the Blessed Virgin
In these writings Blessed Grignon de Montfort explains in detail, in this classic, what is required of us to have True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The teaching of Blessed Grignon de Montfort is further illustrated by the words spoken by the Blessed Virgin to St. Bridget. She said: “He who sees God sees me; and he who sees me may see the Divinity and Humanity in me as in a mirror, and me in God. For whoever sees God sees Three Persons in Him; and whoever sees me sees, as it were, the Three Persons. For the deity folded me in Itself with my soul and body, and filled me with every virtue, so that there is no virtue in God which does not shine in me.” - Rev., c I. chap. xlii. A true devotion to Mary is indeed a straight and sure path to a deeper understanding and relationship with Christ. “Jesus Christ is the last end of true devotion to Mary.” Impr 1909, 198 pages.

https://joyfulcatholic.com/cdn/shop/files/N-PDJC2.jpgThe Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Archibishop Alban Goodier, S.J. Originally printed in 1933. 425 page book. In The Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Archbishop Alban Goodier, S.J., offers a profound and reverent study of the final days of Christ, drawn directly from the four Gospels and interpreted in the light of Catholic tradition. Rejecting speculative excess and purely dramatic retellings, Goodier keeps his focus firmly on the Person of Christ—His words, His silence, His intentions, and His love—seeking to understand the Passion as it was lived interiorly by Our Lord Himself. Moving carefully from the events preceding the Last Supper through Calvary and the Burial, the author combines scriptural harmony, patristic insight, and spiritual reflection to illuminate not only what occurred, but what it reveals about the Heart of Christ. Written with clarity, restraint, and deep theological sensitivity, this classic work is especially suited for serious Lenten reading, priestly meditation, and all who desire a deeper understanding of the mystery of Christ crucified and its meaning for the soul today.
